Message from our Board Chair & Executive Director

50 years of listening and learning from community!

  • Advancing our work in reconciliation, decolonization, and anti-oppression.
  • Becoming a more diverse and inclusive organization.
  • Enhancing the experience of our clients and participants.
  • Expanding capacity for programs and services to make them as accessible as possible.
  • With two years of incremental funding from the WRHA, the expansion of our transition care program. With three new Peer Support workers, and additional Clinical and Allied Health staff, the Trans Health Klinic is now providing services five days a week. We also continue to advocate for reduced policy barriers that align with international standards, to further reduce systemic barriers for those seeking gender-affirming procedures.
  • With core funding from the Province of Manitoba, we launched our expanded sexual assault and intimate partner violence crisis response program, Hummingbird, to include Indigenous cultural supports and forensic nurse examiners. As the first community-based forensic nurse examiner program in Manitoba, Hummingbird provides holistic, trauma-informed, wrap around care for Survivors.
  • Klinic became a proud partner in the new 9-8-8 Suicide Helpline, providing our services and expertise in suicide prevention and intervention for the nationwide network.
  • The Ukrainian Mental Health community health program wrapped up on March 31, 2024. We’re incredibly honoured to have offered mental health services and supports to people displaced by the war in Ukraine in the last two years. The team delivering these services, many from Ukraine, were amazing!
  • We reviewed several of our community health programs and redesigned them alongside community members and partners to improve our programs and services in a way that better reflects what community wants and needs from us.
  • The addition of the Director of Indigenous Relations to our leadership team, a critical new role that supports Klinic’s efforts to develop ethics and practices of care using anti-colonial and anti-oppressive praxis.
  • Signing onto the Winnipeg Indigenous Accord.
  • Development of an organizational anti-oppression HR Action Plan informed by folx with expertise.
  • Conducting our first annual staff and volunteer diversity survey, which will inform how we recruit and retain staff to better reflect the communities we strive to serve.
  • An organization-wide accessibility audit with the Manitoba League for Persons with Disabilities
  • a Board led review of governance by-laws, policies, and practices;
  • developing and implementing Cultural Safety and Humility Standards across all levels of the agency;
  • actioning recommendations from the accessibility audit to progress our Human Resource Action Plan; and
  • refining existing processes to increase and improve accessibility of program and services.
